Speech
Speech refers to one’s ability
to make sounds in order to communicate. A speech disorder
is one in which a child has
a problem with the production
of sounds. Often, children who struggle with articulation have
trouble producing sounds and words clearly. Our SLPs use PROMPT-based treatment to facilitate and improve speech production.
Language
Language refers to one’s ability
to understand others and express ideas through oral, written, and/or gestural communication. It does not have to do with how sounds are made.
Language is broken down into two parts: Receptive language is one’s ability to understand information. Expressive language is one’s ability to share information.
This includes a child’s ability to use words and grammar rules that dictate how words are combined to make phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and tell stories.
Expressive language also includes a child’s use of nonverbal communication (gestures, AAC, sign language, etc.) to relay meaning.
Feeding Therapy
Feeding Therapy involves the evaluation and treatment of children with feeding difficulties
and swallowing disorders.
Our SLPs use individualized feeding therapy techniques to help children who are overstuffing their mouth with food, choking, coughing during or after the swallow, consistently needing a drink after swallowing food, tongue thrusting, or who have "picky eater" issues.
Teletherapy
Teletherapy is the delivery of
speech language pathology services at a distance by linking the clinician to the client for assessment, intervention, and/or consultation.
Our practice began using teletherapy during the pandemic and has found it to be an effective and convenient method for many of our clients.
We will be continuing teletherapy via Zoom in order to meet clients' and families' needs.
Consultations & Evaluations
Consultations consist of a
45-minute meeting with Jennifer
and your child to determine if speech and language services are appropriate at this time and/or if further formal assessment is necessary. Consultations are informal, therefore, no written report is provided unless asked for, in which case, an additional fee will be determined.
Evaluations involve formal
assessments administered to your
child over the course of one or more appointments. Evaluation cost and length will vary depending on the skills assessed (i.e., articulation, language,
or both). All evaluations result in
a comprehensive written report
as well as a follow-up session with
the clinician to review the findings.
Group Therapy
Children who need to strengthen
their social communication and language skills can benefit
from small group therapy or
guided playdates with a peer. We offer various camps and groups throughout the year.
